In the sun-drenched hills of Tuscany’s Maremma region, where verdant vineyards cascade down to meet the shimmering sea, Monteverro stands apart as a distinguished boutique estate forging a new path in fine winemaking. Dedicated to excellence, sustainability, and organic craftsmanship, Monteverro answers the call put forth by the evolving consumer landscape, demonstrating an unwavering dedication to terroir and artistry.
Monteverro was brought to life in 2003 by Georg and Julia Weber as the result of an ambitious dream: to craft exceptional wines that not only resonate with the palate but also celebrate the unique characteristics of Tuscany’s distinctive winegrowing regions. Chancing across what would become the Monteverro estate in Maremma gave the entrepreneurial couple all the conviction they needed to pursue the project. Spanning approximately 60 hectares, the vineyard is nestled between the historic towns of Capalbio and the enchanting coastline, providing an exceptional backdrop for viticulture. Amidst the mineral-rich red clay soils, enriched by biodiversity, the vines flourish, embodying authenticity and sophistication.

As the world grows increasingly attuned to the demand for sustainability, Monteverro has taken its role to heart. Its winery is certified organic and limits its cultivated hectares to only 30, reserving the remaining land for olive trees and the aromatic Mediterranean scrub that nurtures a thriving ecosystem. It enhances the quality of the grapes and ensures that each bottle of Monteverro wine tells a story—a narrative steeped in respect for the land that nurtures it.
As the winery’s flagship product, the eponymous Monteverro is an exquisite blend of classic Bordeaux varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. It captures the essence of Tuscany through meticulous craftsmanship, boasting aromas of dark berries, herbs, and spices, and enchanting hints of vanilla and liquorice. Tinata, crafted from Syrah and Grenache, represents an homage to the great grape varieties of the Rhône—the 2020 vintage in particular offers a richly rewarding complexity. But Monteverro’s allure is not just limited to its reds: Stunning Chardonnays from the brand, especially the 2022 vintage, strike a harmonious balance between Burgundy roots and a distinct Tuscan sensibility.
2011 was an especially memorable year for Monteverro in birthing an influential vintage, which earned 100 points from Decanter and a gold medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards. In the footsteps of this success, a decade later, Monteverro unveiled a new chapter defined by balance and elegance. Its 2021 vintage boasts a soft entrance that seamlessly transitions into a vibrant mid-palate, accentuating notes of blackcurrant, blackberry, cherry, and black olive.

Hong Kong’s discerning connoisseurs are increasingly prioritising wines that reflect both terroir and ethical production methods. As the city continues to embrace outstanding quality and sustainability, the demand for organic, responsible choices makes Monteverro a natural fit for this robust luxury market. Demonstrating commitment to Hong Kong, Monteverro recently hosted an event at Estro in October. In the presence of local enthusiasts and media, winemaker Matthieu Taunay led an introduction to the brand, not only through words but also through tastings of select wines, including highly lauded vintages and Monteverro 2011.
As Monteverro charts its course in this new era and reaffirms its commitment to sustainability, it invites Hong Kong’s dynamic drinkers to join the celebrated estate on this journey, explore its acclaimed wines, and deepen their appreciation for artisanal wine production.
